Fittings produced from Alloy 20 contains element niobium for stabilization. Niobium is also what enhances the corrosion resistance properties of Alloy 20 Pipe Fittings. Two of the primary alloyants of this austenitic superalloy include chromium and nickel. Typically both nickel, as well as chromium added to any alloy, is associated with excellent resistance corrosion to a wide range of media.
With a high content of nickel added in the alloy, the WNR 2.4660 Alloy 20 Tee shows good resistance to chloride ion stress related corrosion cracking. Furthermore, the alloy also exhibits good resistance to pitting as well as crevice corrosion. The specified ASTM B366 WP20CB Reducer is to conform to the chemical, mechanical property for e.g. tensile strength along with the heat treatment, tension test, and dimensions that have been mentioned in detail.

However, in the case of WP designated fittings, a Hydrostatic test is not required to be performed by this specification. Usually, the fittings forged or shaped from alloy 20 could be performed by processes such as extruding, bending, or fusion welding as well as hammering, pressing, piercing, upsetting, rolling. Or these fittings could also be shaped using a combination of two or more of these operations.
In the chemical processing industry key applications of ASTM B366 Alloy 20 Buttweld Fittings are in applications that contain chemicals such as sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid and nitric acid. The Carpenter 20 Elbow is also commonly seen in the food and beverage industry, particularly for the manufacture of food preservatives like phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorus trichloride.
