Moreover, these pipes are used for both high temperature as well as high pressure applications. Generally, stainless steel grades are preferred for high temperature settings, while carbon and alloy steel grades are used for pressure settings. Since the Carbon Steel Weld Neck Flange is to be butt-welded, the carbon content of the alloy needs to be less, in order to facilitate the welding process.  And since carbon steel grades cost low, the cost of producing them is lowered too. In comparison to both alloy steel and carbon steel grades, the Stainless Steel Weld Neck Flange is more expensive. However, the fact that stainless steel flanges outperform either of the forementioned grades, makes up for its expensiveness.
