Alloy 310 or as referred to as grade UNS S31000 is austenitic stainless steel. This alloy grade has been developed for use in high temperature settings where the applications require good corrosion resistance properties. When the alloy is used to produce fittings in conjunction with ASTM A403, the resultant fittings have an optimized mechanical property, which is also the reason why grade 310 fittings could be used at elevated temperatures. In addition, the specification draws attention to the heat treatment performed on the ASTM A403 WP310 Pipe Fittings along with their chemical and product analysis. For instance, the administration of a tension test would determine the mechanical properties such as its yield strength and tensile strength with a visual examination conducted to monitor these fittings for surface checks, surface discontinuities, and mechanical marks. The alloy used to make UNS S31000 Tee has good oxidation resistance properties up to 2010F under mildly cyclic conditions.

The higher content of chromium and substantial addition of nickel, in 310S Stainless Steel Pipe Bend makes them resistant to sulfidation. The chemistry of this alloy is also why the SS 310 Reducer could also be used in moderately carburizing atmospheres. The ASTM A403 WP310S Elbow can be used in slightly oxidizing, nitriding, cementing and thermal cycling applications. However, the maximum service temperature for the applications needs to be reduced. Alloy 310 fittings are able to demonstrate good performance in cryogenic applications with low magnetic permeability while exhibiting good toughness down to a temperature of – 450F. When the Stainless Steel 310 Fittings are exposed to an elevated heated setting where the temperature ranges between 1202 – 1742F, the alloy is subject to the formation of sigma phase precipitation.
