The EN 10253 defines the European standard for butt-welding fittings.

What the EN 10253 covers ?

The EN 10253 standard defines the European technical delivery requirements for steel butt-welding fittings. Mainly, these fittings types are covered: elbows, concentric and eccentric reducers, equal and reduced tees, and caps.

Elbows:

Outside Diameter: 14,0mm -219,1mm
Wall thickness: from 1 mm to 50 mm, depending on the outside diameter
Angle: from 7° to 180°, depending on the outside diameter
Types of elbow: 2D, 3D, 5D, long radius, short radius – 2D, 3D, 5D, long radius, short radius
Standard specification: EN10253 Typ A and B, DIN 2605 Part 1 and 2, ASME B16.9, production according to customer specification.
Welding bevel: according to EN10253, EN9692-1, DIN2559, ASME B16.25, according to technical drawing

How the standard is structured?

This standard can be divide into four parts which includes as mentioned below:

Part 1 – This part technical delivery requirements for seamless and welded butt-welding fittings made of carbon steel, without specific inspection requirements.

Part 2 – Under this part technical delivery requirements for seamless and welded butt-welding fittings made of carbon steel and alloy steel, with specific inspection requirements.

Part 3 – In 3rd part its defines seamless and welded butt-welding fittings made of austenitic and austenitic-ferritic (duplex) stainless steel, without specific inspection requirements.

Part 4 – Under this part seamless and welded butt-welding fittings made of austenitic and austenitic-ferritic (duplex) stainless steel, with specific inspection requirements.

EN 10253-2 (Issue 2008) – carbon steel elbows

EN 10253-2 standard is used for butt welding pipe fittings and carbon steel elbows with specific inspection requirements. We supply carbon steel elbows according to the types 2D, 3D, 5D and also many other radii in between. The EN 10253-2 has part for elbows with a full degree of utilization (Type B). “Type B” elbows have a significantly reinforced wall thickness against the wall thickness on the inside of the elbow. The reason for this is that the the inside wall of the fitting is the most stressed part of an elbow.

En 10253-4 (Issue 2008) – stainless steel elbows

This standard deals with fittings for the welding of austenitic and austenitic-ferritic (duplex) steels with special test requirements. For the most part, this standard complies with EN 10253-2. Here, for example, there are sporadically different bending radii compared to the EN10253-2. Our team will inform you about the differences if you need further information.

DIN 2605

The DIN 2605 is the former elbow standard which has now been replaced by the EN10253. There are other wall thicknesses for the elbows with a full degree of utilization (Type 2) compared to the new standards. Also, this standard is not as extensive as the EN10253 and it contains only a part about elbows and no other fittings.

ASME B 16.9

This standard includes all technical delivery conditions for fittings manufactured according to ASME Standard. Among other things, there is a part for elbows.

The standard defines the following points:

a) type of fittings
b) steel grades and their chemical compositions
c) mechanical properties
d) dimensions and tolerances
e) requirements for inspection and testing
f) inspection documents
g) marking

h) protection and packing
