Duplex UNS S31803 Flange
Grade 2205 or as also known as UNS S31803 is a duplex stainless steel grade that is often preferred by many suppliers and buyers over the grade 300 series. While grade 300 belongs to the austenitic class of stainless steels, UNS S31803 has a dual microstructure of both austenite and ferrite in an almost equal proportion, thereby making this alloy a duplex grade. A reason why a Duplex UNS S31803 Flange is preferred over the more conventionally used austenite grade such as alloy 304 is that the duplex grade alloy will always outperform them. They have a higher mechanical strength and superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking. For instance, the yield strength of duplex f51 flanges is about 480 MPa.

Also, their high mechanical properties are the reason why the duplex ss flanges are often constructed lighter and have a lower weight. Its lower weight not only reduces the overall cost of the application, but the lightweight flange is easier to install by the worker. Thus proving to be both time efficient and cost effective. The notch ductility of duplex 2205 flanges is good at both ambient settings as well as those environments, where the temperatures reach sub-zero. Duplex stainless steel flanges are frequently supplied with a PREN value or also referred to as Pitting Resistance Equivalent number of more than 34. A PREN value of more than 34 indicates good resistance to pitting corrosion, which is as high as possible for this alloy grade.
